What is Paint Correction?

Did you search “paint correction Newcastle”? Or maybe “paint polishing Newcastle”? Paint correction is also known as paint polishing or buffing. These terms are used interchangeably to describe the process of removing microscopic amounts of a vehicles paintwork (the clear coat) to remove defects such as swirls, scratches, oxidation and water spotting. This removal is done with professional grade power tools such as a machine polisher or buffer.

The diagram below shows examples of different types of defects found in car paintwork and how they affect your cars finish. As can be seen in the diagram, deep scratches go all the way through the clear coat and into the base coat. These kinds of deep scratches require respraying to bring the panel back to new condition.

The video below shows how the swirls and scratches have been removed from one car panel to reveal the true clarity and colour of the paint. This red Mazda had our paint correction package performed to achieve this result. It involved 2 steps of machine polishing to bring the paint back to “as new” appearance.

Our Paint Correction Packages

Level 1: One Step Correction

From $400

Our Level 1 Paint Correction package includes a one stage machine polish – the perfect start to bringing your vehicle’s paintwork back to life.

This package is aimed at providing light to medium defect removal. This would include defects such as wash swirls or marring, light to medium scratches, a medium level of paint fading and milder forms of water spotting and etching. This package will also remove those dreaded buffer marks/ holograms caused by incorrect buffing techniques that are often employed at car dealerships, cheaper paint/ panel shops and shopping centre car washes.

On that note, if you are considering having your paint buffed (corrected) don’t shop on price alone. The paint work on your car is worth thousands of dollars; don’t fall for the $150-$200 paint correction specials offered by local car washes. These are not true paint corrections and usually do more damage to your paint, leaving it riddled with buff marks and the scratches you wanted removed in the first place.

This package includes finishing off with application of a high quality wax.

Level 2: Two Step Correction

From $600

Our Level 2 Paint Correction package includes a two stage machine polish and is for vehicles with more severe defects in the paint. This might include deeper scratches, heavy swirling, paint fading, water-spot etching, brush marks (broom wash marks), and light tree branch scratches. It differs from our level 1 package in that:

  1. Your car is machine polished twice instead of just a single time. This allows for a more aggressive approach if needed to remove the deeper marks that are in your paint. It is important to note that we don’t always use a super aggressive approach if the paint doesn’t require it. Our 10 years of experience with various vehicle makes and models and types of defects have allowed us to learn different approaches that work for different circumstances.
  2. The second step of the process allows for a finer abrasive to refine your vehicle’s paint to a mirror-like appearance. It removes the minor hazing left from the first step and prepares the paint for the sealant to be applied over your car.
  3. Your paint is then protected with a polymer sealant which will protect the car from UV rays along with making your car have a deep shine and slick feeling to it.

So if you are looking to take your car paint to a new level, talk to us today about our Level 2 Paint Correction package.
